FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can I expect in our first session?

Before your first full intake session (this is different from the free consultation call), you’ll complete intake paperwork online so I can get a sense of your background and what you’d like to focus on.

During the intake session, you’ll have space to share your story at your own pace, talk about your goals, and ask me anything. We’ll also check for fit—because therapy works best when both of us feel comfortable. If it doesn’t feel like the right match, I’ll gladly provide referrals to other trusted therapists.

As we go forward, we may use EMDR, CBT, or other talk therapies—whatever feels most helpful for you. No matter the approach, you can expect sessions to feel supportive and collaborative. Most of my clients describe therapy as a mix of laughter, tears, and those little “aha” moments that make things start to click.

What’s the difference between a consultation and a full session?

The consultation is a short, free 20-minute video call where we get to meet, see if we click, and talk about what you’re looking for. Think of it as a first coffee date—just checking the vibe.

A full session is 60 minutes and much more in-depth. That’s where we start exploring your story, patterns, and what’s been keeping you stuck.

What if we’re not a good fit?

That’s completely okay. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, and the relationship between therapist and client matters more than any technique I could use.

If at any point it doesn’t feel right, we’ll talk about it. My priority is that you get the support you truly need, even if that ends up being with another therapist.

Do you work with men?

My practice is focused on working with women who identify as highly sensitive, introverted, or empathic. That’s where my training and experience really shine. Because of that, I don’t currently take on male clients. If you’re looking for support for men, I’d be happy to point you toward resources that might be a better fit.

What kinds of issues do you specialize in?

I specialize in working with women who feel “too much” or “not enough,” often because of perfectionism, people-pleasing, or growing up with emotionally immature parents.

Many of my clients identify as INFJ or INFP, and struggle with self-esteem, boundaries, ADHD, or the lingering effects of childhood emotional neglect.

I’m especially passionate about helping highly sensitive women navigate anxiety, overthinking, relationship stress, and the exhaustion that comes from being around self-absorbed people.

How often will we meet?

Most clients start weekly, at least for the first few months. After that, we’ll check in together and see if weekly still feels best, or if every other week—or eventually monthly—makes more sense.

How long will I be in online counseling?

TLDR: It varies. If struggles are rooted in family-of-origin or old patterns, it usually takes months to years, not weeks. I focus on deeper, long-term changes rather than quick fixes.

It really depends on your needs and goals. Some people work with me for a few months, others choose to stay longer because they value the ongoing support.

Since many of my clients are working through old family patterns or long-standing challenges, I usually take a long-term approach. Quick fixes can help in the moment, but deeper changes take time—and they’re the ones that last.

The good news? With consistency, therapy often leads to permanent shifts in how you see yourself, your relationships, and your world.

Are there any topics in therapy that are off limits?

Nope. You get to decide what you want to talk about, and we’ll never go anywhere you’re not ready for. I’m unshockable, and my job is never to judge you.

I will never pressure you to talk about anything you’re not ready to address. But you’re free to bring anything here—no matter how embarrassing or shaming it might feel. After many years of doing this work, I can tell you: nothing shocks me, and nothing changes my respect for you.

My job is not to judge you, but to help you remember you’re not alone. There’s truly nothing to be ashamed of.

I’ve tried counseling before but it didn’t work. What makes you different?

TLDR: Fit is everything. If you’ve felt judged or misunderstood before, it’s no surprise therapy didn’t help. I work almost exclusively with HSPs and INFJs/INFPs, so I get the sensitive experience in a way many therapists don’t.

Therapy only works when you feel safe enough to show up fully as yourself. If you’ve ever felt judged or dismissed, of course you shut down—that’s human.

My clients often share that their previous therapists weren’t familiar with the highly sensitive trait, which left an important piece missing. I bring both professional training and lived experience of sensitivity, which helps clients feel seen and understood on a deeper level.

Is it true that I may feel worse before I feel better?

TLDR: Sometimes. Digging into hard stuff can stir things up before it eases. That’s normal—and temporary.

Sometimes, yes. When you start unpacking old hurts or patterns, it can stir things up before it brings relief. That’s not a sign that therapy isn’t working—it’s actually a sign that you’re touching on things that matter.

The important thing is you won’t go through it alone. We’ll move at a pace that feels safe, and I’ll help you manage any tough feelings that come up along the way. For most people, that temporary discomfort is followed by real, lasting shifts in how they feel and cope.

How much does an online therapy session cost?

Sessions are $160 for 60 minutes. I know that’s an investment, and I don’t take lightly the trust and commitment that comes with it. My goal is that therapy gives you tools, clarity, and long-term changes that make the investment worthwhile.

Do you offer sliding scale or reduced fees?

I don’t currently offer a sliding scale for new clients. I know therapy is a big financial commitment, and I want you to see it as an investment in yourself and your well-being.

That said, I do offer limited reduced-fee options for current clients who are going through financial hardship. If you’re already working with me and your circumstances change, please let me know—we can talk it through together.

If my fee isn’t possible for you right now, here are some excellent resources where you can find therapists who offer lower-cost options:

Do you accept health insurance?

At this time, I accept most United HealthCare (UHC, Oxford, Optum, UMR, Oscar) and Hawaii’s HMSA.

*NOTE: INSURANCE NOT ACCEPTED IN DELAWARE AT THIS TIME

If you have another insurance provider, you may still be able to get reimbursed through your out-of-network benefits. In that case, you’d pay me directly, and I’d provide you with a monthly receipt (called a “Superbill”) to submit to your insurance company.

*NOTE: INSURANCE NOT ACCEPTED IN DELAWARE AT THIS TIME

Every plan is different, so I can’t guarantee reimbursement—but many clients do get a portion of their sessions covered this way.

If I don’t have UHC or HMSA, can my insurance cover at least part of the fee?

Possibly. If your plan includes out-of-network coverage, here’s how it usually works:

  1. You pay me directly at the time of each session.

  2. At the end of the month, I give you a receipt (Superbill).

  3. You submit that to your insurance company.

  4. They apply it toward your deductible, or reimburse you if you’ve already met it.

The exact amount depends on your plan, so it’s best to call the number on your insurance card and ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits.

How do I find out if I have out-of-network benefits?

Call the customer service number listed on the back of your insurance card. Ask specifically about out-of-network mental health coverage.

How do I set up a free 20-minute consultation?

Reach out on the Contact page and share a little about what you’re looking for, plus your availability. We’ll schedule a free 20-minute call to see if we’re a good fit.

What is your appointment cancellation policy?

Life happens—I completely understand. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give me at least 24 hours’ notice so I can offer that time to someone else who may be waiting.

If it’s less than 24 hours, the full session fee will still apply. This helps me keep your spot reserved and also respect the time I’ve set aside just for you.

When are your online therapy sessions?

Sessions are typically available between 10:30am – 5:30pm (Eastern Time), Monday through Thursday.

In what states do you do therapy?

I provide online therapy to clients in Florida, Delaware*, New Jersey, and Hawaii.

What tech do I need for online therapy?

Nothing fancy. Just:

  • A stable internet connection

  • A device with a camera (computer, tablet, or phone)

  • A private space where you feel safe to talk

  • Optional: headphones or earbuds for extra privacy

Many clients also like to have tea, a blanket, or their pet nearby—whatever helps you feel cozy and grounded.
